Dear Readers,

Technology from Europe for food processing and packaging, as well as for the production and filling of beverages is well established and still leading worldwide – in a way. Of course this applies primarily to the needs of manufacturers of Western style or European products. However, in some ways Indian requirements are different.

Clearly, Indian companies will not compromise on quality and that is absolutely correct. But sometimes the conditions are different. The Indian climate calls for special packaging concepts. Just take the labels: they should not bubble or curl at the edges because of humidity. All materials – whether ingredients, processing equipment or packages – have to run smoothly. Product lines need to be fine tuned to the properties of your raw materials. Total packaging and production cost has to stay in line with marketable pricing. Service has to be online or close by.

We recently met the head of an Indian company at a conference. He complained directly to the CEO of a German technology supplier after their Indian office made him wait for three weeks to offer a solution to a special problem. The audience cheered and the company is now moving forwards.

What does this mean? India will become ever more important for Western suppliers. Make them understand what your special requirements and conditions are. Be demanding. They will come up with the solutions you need. This way a win-win situation will emerge. We are sure.

With our best wishes

Benno Keller, Ian Healey
